Hugo said “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it
is impossible to be silent.” In
that spirit, music is a very important part of the Services at UUFM.
We are a singing congregation and we enjoy a variety of genres,
from classical to jazz.
All
music is under the direction of Music Coordinator, Joyce Midgorden, who
facilitates the multifaceted talents of UUFM members and friends to
provide music ministry for our Sunday services.
She also spearheads bringing outside musicians for special
events.
Joyce’s
education includes classes in voice, choral directing and music theory
at
Regis
College
in
Weston
,
MA
. When a family move took
her to
Mobile
, she finished a B.A. Degree in Music, Drama and English at the
University
of
South Alabama
. Over the years Joyce has
enjoyed directing many Children’s and Adult choirs in churches both
large and small.
Musical
Opportunities at UUFM
-
UUFM Singers: a fun group of people who come
together to "make a joyful noise."
Rehearsals are held every Sunday from
9:15-10:15 AM (September through May) in order to
learn and interpret new music, and finished
pieces are scheduled for joyful singing for
the congregation.

Volunteer Pianists: pianists lead the
congregation in hymns and also play
inspirational pieces in preludes and
reflection moments during Sunday services.
Pianists are typically scheduled to handle
all the music requirements for a single
service, but any pianist may offer to play a
special piece or segment as they are willing
and able.

Volunteer Instrumentalists: Guitarists
and any other musical instrument player may
offer to play a special piece or segment as
they are willing and able.

Congregation Members and Friends: lift your
voice in song during Sunday service and
consider sharing a favorite musical round or
song with the children.
