Chili Cook Off Results

Hooray to our teens for an absolutely wonderful Chili Cook Off contest, held on December 13^th. The contestant’s recipes were intriguing and the congregation enjoyed eating the entries!

The teens were ably led by member Kazzandra Johnson and were responsible for the whole event from planning, consulting, recruiting, publicity, prizes, decorations to setup and cleanup!  They even thought of a special, age appropriate activity for the younger kids...a candy filled piñata!  $100 was raised and after expenses are covered, the Teen Group will donate half to charity and use the other half for their Sunday School fun. 

Congratulation to Pat Cesarini on earning 1^st place. Here’s Pat’s winning “Chili Colorado” recipe:

One package of large, dried, red peppers (8-10)
One pound of roasted pork shoulder, cubed
One pound of braised beef chuck, cubed
One bottle of beer and 2 cups of water
Two chipotle peppers, minced
One teaspoon garlic powder
Two teaspoons oregano
One tablespoon cumin
One large can of beans, any type, any combo

Seed, wash, and reconstitute chili peppers (soak in boiled water for 45 min.), then grind into a paste. Rub paste through sieve, discarding stringy bits, and put strained paste into pot.  Add meat and beer and simmer for 30 minutes.  Add remaining ingredients and simmer for at least 1 more hour.  Season to taste (with salt, extra cumin, chili powder, etc.).
